I just purchased hosting and don't know what to do next...

By now you should have received your Welcome email and right now we are just verifying your account. Once it is verified, which usually takes a few minutes during business hours (9am - 9pm EST) and about an hour during off business hours, we will send you an email with the subject 'New Account Information'.

This email contains everything you need to know about getting your website published to our servers and transferring your domain if you have chosen to do so.

My website is hosted with MobileMe, how do I transfer my website?

Transferring from MobileMe is very easy. When you sign up, select the option to transfer your domain to our RAGE Web Hosting. Once you receive an email from us with the subject 'New Account Information' follow these steps;

  • In the New Account Information email look for the FTP & iWeb Publishing instructions.
  • In iWeb, select your website in the upper left hand corner of iWeb. This is where you enter your publishing details.
  • From the drop down menu called Publish To: at the top of the window, select FTP Server
  • Enter the FTP information exactly as shown in the 'New Account Information' email. When entering your username and password, the capitalization of the characters must match exactly.
  • Now just press the Publish Site button to publish your website to our servers.
When signing up to web hosting, which option do I select on the first step?

You will see three options once you press the Sign up button on the first step of the order process. Here they are explained in more detail;

  • Register a new domain
  • Select this option if you do not currently have a website set up. Here you will create a new domain to access your website (example http://www.ragesw.com).

  • Transfer existing domain to RAGE Web Hosting
  • If you already have a domain that you purchased with another company you can transfer the domain to us, which means all management of your website will go through us. If you select the option below, your domain will stay with the company you purchased it from. The process of transferring your domain can take upwards of 1 week. However your website will NOT stop working during this period.

  • Update existing domain to point to RAGE Web Hosting
  • Select this option if you purchased a domain with another company and just want to update it so it points to our servers. This means that your domain will stay with your original domain registrar and you will update it with them so that it points to our servers.

Can I keep my current website address (domain) if I sign up to RAGE Web Hosting?

Yes, you will keep your current website address. From your visitors perspective nothing will change and your website will never be offline.

How easy is it to transfer a website to RAGE Web Hosting?

The process is extremely simple and takes only a few minutes. You can keep your current domain name and your website will not go offline. We have step-by-step tutorials explaining everything that happens when you want to transfer your website. I use iWeb to create my website, can I still use it?

Yes you can and should continue to use iWeb to build your website. Our servers are highly compatible with iWeb so you won't have a problem. Please see our video tutorial for using iWeb with our servers;

Publish Using iWeb

I use iWeb to create my website, will it work or look differently on your servers?

Your website will look and function exactly as it does now. There are a few things that don't work on Non-MobileMe hosted websites when using iWeb. Fortunately we have provided much better alternatives for you;

Blog commenting
Blog commenting only works with MobileMe hosted websites. However, we have our iWeb to WordPress software which comes free with one year or more of web hosting. This software will convert your iWeb blog to a WordPress blog (just blog posts and comments). WordPress is a much more powerful blogging system that lets you create blog posts from any computer.

Hit Counter
The iWeb Hit Counter displays how many visitors have visited your page. Including a hit counter on your website is not something any modern website does anymore. Instead they use traffic analytics software such as Google Analytics. We offer a free and easy way to include Google Analytics on your iWeb site. We also include our own built in Analytics software that you can use without any configuration. Analytics software tells you where your visitors come from, how long they spend on your website, what pages they visit most and much more.

Password Protection
iWeb's password protection features will not work when not publishing to MobileMe. However, we offer the same functionality through our control panel once you have signed up.

Can I password protect certain parts of my website?

Yes, we offer the abiity to password protect your entire site or just certain sections of your site. You can even create custom usernames and passwords for certain visitors. Setting up password protection is very easy to do and does not require any technical skills.

Do you support RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway or MUSE?

Yes, we fully support any web building apps including; RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway and Muse.

I want to move away from iWeb and switch to product X

We fully support any web creation app including, but not limited to; RapidWeaver, Sandvox, Freeway, Muse, Dreamweaver etc...
