Adding A Facebook Like or Recommend Button To iWeb – Video Tutorial

There was, yet another, update to the Facebook Developers like button page, which has caused some confusion for iWeb users trying to put the Like button on their site. Here is an updated video to outline what user’s should now do in order to add the button. Note at the end where the button is not visible on the screen. Many of you can expect to see the same, which may make it a bit tricky to add the button.

    I don’t know. Google is picking up on my phone recommend buttons but ignoring my like buttons.

    My problems is that it says:

    “This plugin does not have an iframe implementation with the selected options. Please use the JavaScript SDK and the HTML5 or XFBML implementations, or change the value of the send parameter.”

    What am i supposed to do then?

    Uncheck the option that says Send Button

    I followed the above steps to add a “like button” , but when the page is published to a folder the button isn’t there. I was a little confused that the pasted code wouldn’t show up until the page was published and I wasn’t sure how to size the box without being able to see how everything fit until it was published, but I tried it anyway.I used the iframe option. Could it be the page is new because I’m also having trouble finding my biz page doing a search. Some people have found me (two to be exact) and some can’t. Is Facebook having a melt down?

    I might be a little confused. I thought this button would forward people to my facebook page, so they could like me. The button is there but doesn’t seem to do anything. Is it suppose to?

    It’s funny. I wasn’t able to add the box to my iWeb site.
    The box was not visible. In cas if you do have the same problem:
    Add “http:” before “www.facebook.com”
    like this:
    <iframe src="http://www.facebook.com…
    Don't know why FB code does not include this.

    Thanks for the tip Chris. I added the http and it suddenly appeared in iWeb — but when I publish it, it doesn’t show online. Does this just take time?

    This tutorial is nice but hardly does what it sets out to do.
    pasting the code on to the HTML snippet is merely the starting point (and you know it!),
    how about REALLY helping here, and give us once and for all a good tutorial on how to use the fb OG protocol with the like button on iweb. because:
    a. there is no good tutorial on that
    b. what you’r teaching here is useless without it
    c. please?
    d.pretty please?

    Hi Avigail,

    I’m a bit confused by your comment. How is it that this tutorial hardly does what it sets out to do? The purpose of the tutorial is to show users how to simply add a Facebook Like button to their websites made in iWeb so that users perusing their sites can Like their Facebook page without having to find their Facebook page on facebook.com. The tutorial you are requesting is very different from adding a simple Like button a website. It is a much more advanced tutorial that only a small number of iWeb users might actually be interested in doing.

    I followed the tutorial but I got a button that linked to like my page (not my fan page) and all of my friends fan pages as well. I want a button that links to MY facebook fan page only. Is there a separate tutorial for that. thanks

    The link I want is just like the link YOU have on the bottom of this page – twitter, facebook, youtube. If I click on either of those links I get right to YOUR FB page. This is what I require can you give me a link to that tutorial. Thanks a bunch!

    I’m having the same problem as Deb, above. The Like button shows up in iWeb but not on the website after I publish. Any ideas?
