EverWeb 1.6 Released; Faster Website Publishing & More…

Monday, October 6th, 2014

We’re very happy to announce the release of EverWeb 1.6.

With version 1.6 we focused on enhanced publishing which means your web sites will publish much faster to your EverWeb + Hosting account or to your FTP server. Now, minor changes will only publish the changed files even if you change the publishing location. This also means previewing websites is faster as well!

On your first publish with this new version, your entire website will have to be published. After that, you will find publishing to be significantly faster.

We also added a feature to not include new pages in the navigation bar so that your entire site does not have to be marked as changed when adding new pages.

Lastly we made lots of improvements for Retina and High resolution screens. Your websites will load faster and more efficiently on iOS and other mobile devices.

CHANGES
– Enhanced publishing significantly improves publishing changed web page files
– Option to not include new pages in the navigation bar so your entire site doesn’t have to be republished
– If you change the name of an asset to use @2x it will be used appropriately for retina images
– Retina CSS is not included if there aren’t retina images
– Fixed paypal widget button not appearing until you modify an option under Widget settings
– Fixed the default background color for the nav bar mouse over sub menus being exported as white instead of gray
– You can now enter anchors within the External Link field
– Fixed a crash when pressing the Add Page button while publishing your website
– Fixed issue with Facebook widget not appearing in preview
– Fixed contact form labels so they don’t wrap to a second line
– Fixed navigation bar issues

Three EverWeb Productivity Tips for iWeb Users

Wednesday, August 6th, 2014

We get some questions from iWeb users wondering why they should use EverWeb when iWeb may still be working for them. Instead of going through all the new features an EverWeb site can have over an iWeb site, I wanted to discuss three tips that make actually designing and maintaining your site so much easier.

EverWeb’s Master Pages

So you’ve built your site with Apple’s iWeb and probably found it very easy to use. But, what happens when you want to make a change to your website’s design? In iWeb, you have to go through every single page to do this.

In EverWeb, you just have to use the super simple Master Pages features. Master Pages let you design your site once and use that design on every single page of your site. Furthermore, you can create an unlimited number of Master Pages if some pages need different designs than others.

Simply go to the File menu and select ‘New Master Page…’. It works just like creating a regular page.

Once your Master Page is created, select the pages on your site that you want to use this Master Page and go to the Inspector and select the ‘Page Settings’ tab(first tab). Right at the top you can assign the Master Page.

Now, you only have to update the design of your Master Page and any page that uses this Master Page gets updated too. Super simple, and extremely time saving!

Object Grouping

Have you ever had a group of shapes, images text or design elements that you always want to keep together?

EverWeb has a grouping feature which treats multiple shapes as just one shape meaning they stick together exactly as you have designed them. When you move them around, they all move around as one object.

It’s a great way to better manage your website design.

To use grouping, select the objects you want to group together and go to the File menu and select ‘Group’. You can always ungroup objects in the same manner.

Object Locking

Isn’t it annoying when you’ve placed an image or text exactly where you want it but then when moving another object you accidentally move it?

With EverWeb’s object locking you can lock any object in place so it can’t be manipulated until you actually go back and unlock it.

This feature is great to avoid unwanted web page design changes and greatly reduces the amount of mistakes you can make while designing your website.

To lock an object, select it and then go to the Format menu and select Lock. You can unlock a locked object by following these same instructions.

There you have it, three great ways to make website design and management much simpler and easier. If you have any productivity tips you’d like to share, please do so in the comments below.

Password Protection In EverWeb: How To Password Protect Your Website

Tuesday, March 25th, 2014

EverWeb now allows users to password protect their website, or different parts of their website. This allows EverWeb users to create members only sections of their website, or keep their entire site private so only those who have a username and password can access it. Multiple usernames and passwords can be created.

This feature can only be used when publishing to an EverWeb + Hosting account. If you are using the EverWeb Standalone version and would like to upgrade to the EverWeb + Hosting version, please send us an email to let us know.

The video tutorial below will show you how to easily add password protection to your entire site, or to certain sections of your website.

As the video will demonstrate, password protection must be added to a web page that is a Directory and not just a normal page.

EverWeb Adds 301 Redirects Feature

Thursday, March 20th, 2014

In EverWeb’s latest release (1.3), one of the main features added was the ability to include 301 redirects. In case you are unfamiliar with 301 redirects, here is a quick explanation, along with a reason as to why they can be important.

A 301 redirect allows you to essentially change one URL to another. So for example, let’s say before using EverWeb, you had an iWeb site and the URL for the main page was www.jeremysgolfshop.com/Sites/Welcome.html. Now that you are using EverWeb, you have published the EverWeb version of your website, which is located at www.jeremysgolfshop.com. The problem is that the URL www.jeremysgolfshop.com/Sites/Welcome.html still exists, and users are finding it in search engines and visiting your old site. The 301 redirects feature allows you to automatically redirect the user from www.jeremysgolfshop.com/Sites/Welcome.html to www.jeremysgolfshop.com.

This works just beyond your main page on your site. You can set this up for every single page on your website. It also tells search engines that you have permanently changed the URL from the old one to the new one. This should help you to maintain your current search engine rankings.

To learn how to use this feature, please refer to the video tutorial below. Please keep in mind that this feature is specific to the EverWeb hosting plan. Any user who is currently using the EverWeb Standalone version is welcome to upgrade their plans at any time. Just send us an email and let us know you wish to upgrade.

EverWeb 1.3 Released With FTP Publishing; Our Biggest Update Yet

Thursday, March 6th, 2014

We’re very excited about the latest update to EverWeb, our easy to use website builder.

EverWeb 1.3 is our biggest update yet with a lot of new, and exciting features. Here are some of the highlights;

Direct FTP Publishing
One of our most requested features was direct FTP Publishing and we’ve added that to the latest release. You no longer need to publish to a folder and use a third party FTP client. EverWeb can publish directly to most FTP servers right from within the software.

This helps reduce publishing issues and makes publishing your site much faster and much more convenient.

E-commerce Widget
We’ve added a very powerful new e-commerce widget that lets you add Paypal ‘Buy Now’ buttons or add a fully featured Shopping Cart.

Now you can easily start selling your products or services on your EverWeb website.

Password Protection
Although iWeb provided password protection you could only password protect your entire website with one username/password. EverWeb lets you create an unlimited number of usernames/passwords and it lets you password protect certain sections of your website only.

This means part of your website can be public and used by anyone, while another part can only be accessed by entering a username and password.

This is a great feature for creating a members only or private section on your website. This feature requires EverWeb One-Click Publishing.

404 Not Found Page and 301 Redirects
This new feature may sound advanced but it is extremely easy to use and very powerful.

404 Not Found pages let you assign a page that should appear if a user tries to visit a non existing page on your website. For example, they could be following an outdated link or they could have mistyped your page in their browser. With this feature you can make sure they see an actual page and not a cryptic error message.

This feature requires EverWeb One-Click Publishing and can be accessed from the Site Publishing Settings screen.

301 redirects lets you completely migrate an old website to EverWeb while keeping your current search engine rankings. Lets say you had an old iWeb site and you wanted to transfer it over to EverWeb. The page URL may be different so this feature lets you forward a specific iWeb page to a specific EverWeb page.

Simply copy and paste your old iWeb URL (visit it in your browser and copy the URL from your browser) into the Redirect field (at the bottom of Inspector->Page Options) and EverWeb takes care of the rest. Now whenever someone goes to visit your old iWeb page, they will be redirected to your EverWeb page.

Other features include integrated Video tutorials, lots of bug fixes and improvements and faster website publishing.

Sitemap Automator 2.7 Adds XML Sitemap Support for EverWeb Website

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014

We’re please to announce a new update for Sitemap Automator which adds the ability to create and publish XML Sitemap files for EverWeb hosted websites.

Sitemap Automator creates specially formatted files called XML Sitemaps that list all your web pages along with details on how important each page is, how often each page is updated and the last time a page was updated. This file then gets submitted to all major search engines to help them properly find and index your entire website.

Google, Yahoo, Bing and Ask search engines rely on these XML Sitemap files to determine how to prioritize and properly organize all pages on your website.

EverWeb is our all new, drag and drop website builder for OS X. It works very similar to Apple’s discontinued iWeb software. With this update, Sitemap Automator automatically recognizes your EverWeb built websites and publishes them directly to your EverWeb account.

This new update also improves support for OS X Mavericks and updates the user interface. In addition it fixes a few issues with scanning certain websites.

EverWeb 1.2 Adds Master Pages

Wednesday, January 29th, 2014

We’re very please to announce the second major update to EverWeb.

EverWeb is the easy to use website builder that takes up where Apple’s iWeb left off. EverWeb lets anyone build professional, modern websites that work in any web browser, including Internet Explorer.

EverWeb 1.2 adds Master Pages which let you design your website once and have any changes automatically be applied to every page on your site. With Master Pages you design your site once, then assign the Master Page to each page on your site. Each page that uses the Master Page will use the same design and can be updated by simply editing the Master Page.

See How to Use Master Pages in EverWeb

EverWeb 1.2 also fixes problems when working with large websites and improves all around stability. This update is free for users who have an active EverWeb support license. You can also start using EverWeb for free to see if it is right for you.

With EverWeb 1.2, upgrading from iWeb is even easier. You can design your iWeb site once as a Master Page and assign that Master Page to all pages on your site. You won’t have to redesign each page on your site.
